something at stake, like deciding what feature to add to open source os400.

I think you still need one entity in charge of the system. Someone who owns
it and makes all the final decisions. The new version of apache seems to be
very late, past its expected completion date. What is the holdup with a
standard gui version of linux, one that can compete with our ms friends?

Judging just from this list, getting peer to peer pgmrs to agree on things
is like herding cats.

But sure, fixing bugs. I can see how open source would excel at that.
Similar, maybe, to how this list excels at getting answers to people who
post questions.
