  • Subject: Shipments of PC's slowing dramatically

From an article in Computer Technology Review:
US PC shipments will drop 6.3% in 2001 from 2000
Worldwide to grow moderately.
Factors:
  1) Weak economy
  2) Market saturation
Basically most people have a computer that is 'good enough'. Most people
now have a computer powerful enough to run what they need. Unless
technology comes around to drive a need, like Bluetooth, 802.11b or some
new killer ap. Or if they redefine PC's to include tablet and Pocket PC's.

What will this mean to the midrange market?
1) Economy is in the tank for everyone.
2) IBM might not think that the PC growth is the darling anymore.
