IBM has always frozen the code for a release, and issued both single ptf's
and
on a periodic basis, a cumulative. When you order a release, IBM ships the
original
release cd's and the latest cumulative.
Several years ago, as IBM was adding new functionality, and many ptfs were
coming
out for a single function, many of us complained about how to track all the
ptf's (like
what are all the ptf's for the HTTP server?) IBM responded and created Group
PTF's.
They are not tied to the schedule of cumulatives, some are updated as often
as weekly
(I think). The biggest group was probably the Y2K Group.
I have always suggested customers load the fgroup for HIPERS, Database, and
any
related to products used on your system.
They are free, and you can check ibm's site (listed in my prev post below)
and see the
last date a group was updated.
For loading a new release - you need OS, license programs, cum cd's, and
selected groups.
BTW - for those who don't know this - a cumulative does NOT include ALL
ptf's.
