Jim,

C doesn't come as part of the 'package deal' until V5R1.  Then you get
Code/400 and everything else.

Barbara et al,

Yes, I did see the command source that Al Barsa posted, and took a look at
it,
but I am one that always wants the freshest copy of source.  Also, we're on
V4R4M0
and I didn't notice what version the source Al Barsa sent was (could of
been
the
same across versions, I just don't know).

As it is, at this point I'm not changing anything, I'm just manually
changing the
compile options when I compile (I'll probably create a PDA option for
myself).

I'll talk this over with my boss (got one in IS now) and see what he
thinks.
I
downloaded and created the library for RTVCMDSRC, but I dont' think we have
a
C compiler on this box, I'll have to check, pretty sure we don't though.  I
under-
stand, however, that C compilers come with RPG now?  We have V4R5 on the
shelf
that no one has bothered to upgrade yet, perhaps we'll get the C compiler
with that
and then I'll be good to go.

Frankly, I'm not real happy with any of the provided solutions, as I'd
rather just
change the default on the IBM supplied command, but that's just not
possible
it
seems.  Hopefully IBM will rectify that in some future release (ADDCMDDFT
maybe).

Thank you for all the information, everyone, still have to decide what
route
to
go though.  I can no longer make decisions based solely on what I feel is
best
anymore, now got a team to think about.

Jim, didn't you notice that Al Barsa posted the CMD source already?  But
I doubt that it will help you.  You can set up a SNGVAL with *SRCDBG, but
as soon as anyone enters some other option, that default goes back to
*NOSRCDBG.  You can't set defaults for all the options.

Me, I'd go the PDM route.  It shouldn't be too hard to get your
co-workers accustomed to compiling with a PDM option.  Especially if you
all agree that using *SRCDBG is a good idea.

Do your folks currently type CRTRPGPGM on the command line?  If so, they
may be ready to learn about PDM.  If not, how are you going to get them
to use your new command instead of using 14?

One more problem with creating your own command to call CRTRPGPGM's CPP
is that it won't work at security level 50.  I'm not sure about 40.
