RE: Malcolm Haines resigns from IBM (Elvis)

I'm sure there are a couple thousand takes on this.  None of us would want
to deny Malcolm any opportunity.  However, in my discussions with him my
impression is that he is a true advocate in the system and just as
frustrated as we are with certain attitudes within IBM.  I also think that
within the limited amount of flexibility that he had he did come up with
some truly unique programs to promote the system.

So, I believe most of us are lamenting for a number of reasons: 1.) we have
lost a truly creative and talented person to work with 2.) we have lost a
true advocate of the system and 3.) the prevalent pessimistic attitude
would suggest that his backfill will not be as creative, forthcoming,
etc......

I wish Malcolm the best.  I always enjoyed speaking with him, attending any

No matter what the reference meant, maybe the iSeries Community should just
take things at their face value.  From Chuck's post, it seems that Mr.
Haines is pursuing a new dream.  Who would deny him that opportunity...?
I'm sure Mr. Haines necessarily has butted a few heads in his career, but
why assume he's being run off by those who didn't always agree with him,
rather than take a positive slant on the situation...?  I can't imagine he
would have stuck with the iNation concept, this long, if he hadn't met some
with both approval and disapproval, along the way...

For those who didn't get the "Elvis" reference, there it is in plain
English.

If Frank Soltis is considered the "father" of the AS/400 (S/38 - iSeries)
then I guess Malcolm was like a "step-father" who always wanted the best
of everything for the "child" (AS/400) but often found himself running
against the wishes of the "mother" (Irene Beatrice McCorporation).   :-)
