Anyone else having trouble with this new Internal modem ?
We have a customer who uses it for dial-out ISP connection. Every few
weeks we get this:
TCP8464 Information 30 20/07/01 08:30:35 QTOCUTIL
QSYS *STMT QTOCPPCM QSYS
                                     From module . . . . . . . . :
QTOCMSGH
                                     From procedure . . . . . . :
send_msg_q
                                     Statement . . . . . . . . . : 679

                                     To module . . . . . . . . . :
QTOCPPCM
                                     To procedure . . . . . . . :
call_setup__9CM_globalFv
                                     Statement . . . . . . . . . : 1610

                                     Message . . . . : Call Setup to
communication line QPPPCMN01 failed, Reason
                                       Code 255.
                                     Cause . . . . . : A Call Setup
operation to communication line QPPPCMN01
                                       failed with Reason Code 255.
(Of course reason code 255 is not listed in the details - it seems to
apparently mean "I don't have a clue what's wrong")
Any further attempt to dial out results in the same error message..

As this is an Internal modem, you can't reset the useless thing by a power
off/on - and it's on the MFIOP of a small model 270 so you can't vary on
with IOP Reset, so to reset the modem you have to IPL the system !
So - internal modems (an idea from the PC world) now mean you have to
treat your 400 like a PC and reboot it when the modem locks.
But I guess that's progress, eh ! :-(
