  • Subject: Using qtmmSendMail to send mail in different character sets

Hi all,

I have been using qtmmSendMail to send mail in US English (CCSID
37)successfully. I create a MIME encoded file in the IFS (CCSID 819) and
code the header of the message portion of it:

Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

The problem comes when the message is in a non-latin character set. Given a
particular EBCDIC CCSID for the message, what ASCII CCSID should I create
the MIME encoded file in the IFS and what charset value should be used?

I am aware of API QLGRLNGI which can return the ISO CCSID for a particular
language if it is loaded (not CCSID); also QlgCvtTextDescToDesc which can be
used to give the "IANA name" for a particular CCSID, but this was introduced
in V4R3M0.

Any pointers to the fine manual or other documentation would be appreciated.
I have already been searching the Info Centre using "qtmmSendMail", "SMTP",
"CCSID" etc. I also need to make this work back to V4R2M0, although I may be
able to get away with V4R3M0.

Regards,

Kevin W.
