One solution off the top of my head is to run APPC over TCP/IP. Passthrough
would then work.

Subject: automatically signon another system via telnet

We've got two AS/400 systems in two locations. Each is currently
running
about 15-20 branches (some via frame relay and some via leased
lines.) We
want to combine the systems to run all programs and store all data
on one of
        the two boxes.

If all branches were on frame relay on the same network, the
communication
side wouldn't be too difficult. But it's very expensive to upgrade
all the
        equipment to go frame.

We have a frame relay PVC between the two AS/400s and can telnet
back and
forth. If the users on leased lines had their initial programs set
to
telnet to the other system, we wouldn't have to buy new equipment
(right
away). But currently, they have to sign on twice - once for each
system.

End user --> sign on system 1 --> telnet system 2 --> sign on system
2

We would like to automate that second signon. I tried QRMTSIGN to
*SAMEPRF
and *VERIFY but it doesn't seem to work for the AS/400 telnet
client.
(*VERIFY worked with client access, but if we were all client
access, it
would just be a matter of changing the IP address and maybe some
routing.)

Any ideas if this is possible? Do I have to [shudder] write a
TN5250e
client that runs on the AS/400 to make this work? (The [shudder] is
really
because writing that client is beyond my ability.)

If I could make STRPASTHR run on TCP/IP I might be able to use that,
but I
        don't know if it will.

I'm open to any suggestions anyone might have.

        Thanks!!!
