RE: Free OS/400

What exactly are you looking for in a migration path?  Client server and web
software architecture is so different and so much more complex than
traditional AS/400 programming.  It's like writing a book and expecting your
word processor to provide a migration path to a movie.  It's so easy to
blame IBM, but the expectations are so unrealistic.

The migration path is the same as it is for any other platform -- pick from
this week's most prominent emerging technologies and learn them.

Ahh, but by not GIVING us the decent migration path, they are forcing us to
come up with that also.  Seems like IBM has found a new way to lower its R&D

costs - which does benefit the bottom line! ;-)

I'd tend to agree, if only they gave us a decent migration path.  Webfacing
is a poor solution; it's really just a glorified screen-scraper.  But then
again, the concept of moving an existing program from monolithic green
screen to a true client/server design is a lot of work that can't easily be
packaged and sold, and developing a standard client/server infrastructure is
a lot of work which doesn't immediately benefit IBM's bottom line.
