Can you afford to put a 3590 E model in your 3494, and will it fit? I've
enjoyed running 3590 B's for five years without major issues. I've been
dying to upgrade to the even faster E models. The media is a big pricey,
and I'm not sure if it's overkill for your environment. If you're looking
at 3580, however, you might consider 3590.

If LTO catches on the 3580's will be a good investment with a future, but
that's dependent on whether LTO puts a dent in the DLT market. If it
doesn't catch on I wouldn't be surprised if the other LTO partners pull out,
leaving yet another proprietary IBM format. From what I've seen IBM's
contribution to the LTO consortium was basically all the cool stuff they put
into the 3590 technology anyway.
