RE: fireproof backups

Actually, I have thought about having an LPAR box here with one partition for each branch in lieu of having an AS/400 box at each branch.  Our comms guy gets a little twitchy when he hears that though.  One point of failure, plus if comms go down, everything stops at the branches.

We're as "regionalized" as we're gonna be.

Hey, Chuck, how about you?  Just stop in at our Indy branch every morning on your way to work.  Are you a trusty kind of guy?  <g>  (I'm gonna be in your part of town Wednesday thru Friday this week, a big company annual pow-wow at the Adam's Mark near the airport, but all of our waking hours appear to be accounted for.  Maybe next time, buddy! <g>)

Well, that's the big question.  Since it's my a** that's on the line here, I'm not inclined to rely on this to happen.

        We have a fire proof safe
We use it for storing some stuff that we need to lock up sometimes
We do not fool ourselves that magnetic medeia in there will be useable in the 
after math of a real fire
Fire Proof means the papers won't burn
it does not mean magnetic media won't melt

        Off site rotation of backups is dirt cheap
All you have to do is trust personnel transporting the media to take prudent 
care of them like not leaving in direct sunlight, storing in car trunk in all 
weather, do not lean up against a telephone etc.
