Chuck:

One of the best "toolkits" comes from the IBM Custom Technology Center. (Just
do a web search on 'ibm custom technology center
'.) For a few years, they've provided a free set of easy to install and use
custom sockets APIs; at least up to late last year -- haven't checked recently.

These make it VERY easy to write sockets clients even in CL. If you want to
write a sockets server, they'll also help; but the fee becomes significant.
(Still way cheaper than developing from scratch.) I have had very good results
in a couple large installations and found it far easier than coding my own,
although I have coded servers and clients without them in ILE RPG.
