John, each partition should be considered as a system and you will be  fine.
[4 Partitions  equals 4 - Option 21s.]  You can  also get  fancy and use one of the High Availability products  across partitions. Sort of a soft high availably deal but that still leaves a single point of failure in the primary partition.

PLIC  does not get backed up.

 Does anyone know how the PLIC is backed up?  Option 21 will
 save everything, right?  I know how to restore everything
 from an option 21 save.  But how do you backup and restore the PLIC?
