Packed field mismatch

Have a dilemma.

ILE-RPG has length limit of 30 for packed field (V4R3)
Have a db file with packed field of length 31( actually 31,23)

db field is a result of QMQRY derived from a QRYDFN
(i.e. result field of (8,0) / (8,0) * 100) generates (31,23)

ILE RPG pgm is a generic DB utility which picks up field attributes via
API.

Any explanations/suggestions???
