Not personally. It was more of a hypothetical situation. Using the logic
that "if it ain't broke, leave it alone". If the "old" application still
works without need of modification, why bother spending time and/or money
re-writing or buying a new package. At the same time, there could be a
need/want to purchase a new package for a different business use. Just as
easy to tell users they can't run both together in the same environment,
which is why I would vote for the switch at the job level.

I still have an application at home written for DOS. Since I have not
outgrown it's functionality, there was no reason to upgrade to their windoze
version, even though they no longer support the DOS package. Works fine for
me until I need it to do something it does not currently handle. Then I
guess I will have to live with the limitation or upgrade. Have to ask
myself, "Is it worth the cost?"

Another survey question could be:
How many have unsupported software that runs just fine as is and would be
hard pressed to give it up?

Joe,

When you mention: legacy, no source code, no support, in one sentence
then state: new software from vendors forcing the use of longer library
lists, I have to ask: are you in the sad situation where you have one
very old application from a road kill vendor, in conjunction with a
newer, supported, application that is "forcing" the use of longer lists?
