If you do a backup without ENDSBS there are risks that something is running
other than currently signed on user jobs, such as printers, error messages,
scheduled JOBQ. To be assured there is none of this, you have to have a very
small system. The AS/400 I manage is growing by leaps & bounds. When I was
getting ready for backup Fri nite I check bunch of areas like is anything
running off any JOBQ & since I was waiting on some of my own jobs to finish,
I also checked some things I normally do after backup like DSPLOG what all
crashed today & surprise surprise 3 hours after I thought the last person
left the building a job abnormally terminated involving someone who I did not
realize came back into the building (we have our time outs set for 90 minutes
at present).

People assume the system is available to them any time they want to use it,
then if you ask who was on at a particular time, they all have selective
amnesia.
