David,
I assume you miskeyed your IP address. Were you going for 192.168.0.170?

Subject: Choosing a domain when configuring TCP/IP on As/400

I have my AS/400 set up in CHGTCPDMN as host name AS400 (original, eh?) and domain ARCTOOLS.COM.  IP address is internal, 192.68.0.170 (guess what model I have…).

ARCTOOLS.COM is hosted out there on the internet someplace, not in-house.  Even so, this has worked OK so far.

Now, I’m trying to get Websphere working.  It seems that Websphere is unhappy because it’s trying to resolve ARCTOOLS.COM for some reason.  DNS is returning 216.something (the ISP/web site).  For some reason, Websphere wants to talk to domain ARCTOOLS.COM.  It can’t because I have the AS400 behind a PC firewall.  So, after half an hour or so, Websphere gives up and dies.

I’m looking for advice.  What DOMAIN _should_ I use?  Does anyone know the impact of changing a domain?  If Websphere is looking to talk to ARCTOOLS.COM, what is it looking for?

I am currently testing setting up an entry in the host table to override the DNS reply and point ARCTOOLS.COM to another server inside.  Maybe that will fool it into working properly.

Any thoughts?
