Phil,

Checkout Symantec's NAV for Gateway's.  You point your DNS MX record at
the gateway.  It then virus scans and then passes it on to your "real"
SMTP.  Should require no change to your SMTP setup...just DNS.

We use it and are fairly happy with it.

Same here.  No problems since V4R4.  Close to two years now.  Zero
cost.
Disadvantage is lack of server-side virus scanning.

We've been using the OS/400 mail servers since V3R2.  Things have
improved
greatly.  Not one problem since V4R5.  Zero cost.

Purchase Stalker's Communigate (www.stalker.com).  The mail servers on
the
400 aren't up to par to run in a production environment, in my opinion.
