I find it interesting that there are several ways of accomplishing the task

You could do a "DSPPGMMSG" on occasion, or try using "WRITE" instead of
"EXFMT" for the display file record.

be sure to NOT write to the display too often, too much i/o.  maybe once
after every 1000 records processed?
