As I recall, that campaign (invented, needless to say perhaps, by Malcolm
Haines before he went on to well deserved bigger and better things in the
States) put some enormous percentage on UK AS/400 sales that year.
It was really exciting at the time - there were radio advertisements,
everywhere you looked you saw the posters, etc. I would say that was the
only time the AS/400 has ever impinged on the consciousness of those of my
friends who are outside the IT world.
Unfortunately it was too successful and was effectively saying AS/400 is
Best ... also I guess its flashiness was too scary for a lot of IBMers ...
so it got pulled.

< Just another strange IBM advertisement, I guess.

Reminded me of a previous short-lived campaign. IBM painted English cabs &
busses
in a multi-colored design, with "AS/400" all around, along with other
media.

"You don't need an army to run the System"
At ease. The conflict is over. Our crack troops have now designed a total
system.
A system so reliable it doesn't need legions of technicians to run and
maintain it.
A system that will not put you on an annual software maintenance charge.
A system that fully integrates all the hardware and software components
your
business
needs. For a consultant's report ......

(well, the annual software thing didn't stick, but the system still lives
up
to the ad.
Also in the same campaign (i think),

You don't have to be a slave to the system. (and more text)

The next generation won't need to change the system. (and more text)

No don't tell me. Perhaps it is cause here a few Major US cites someone
has been violating the law and painting the i Series Nation stuff on
public side walks. It was reported, that this caused SUN to offer up a
team of volunteers to clean the streets of this violation.

what wonder occurred in the UK?

I don't expect it until July. They probably don't even place the order
until they know how many to order.

Has anyone received their gift from IBM as of yet?
