The quick answer is "-R" (case sensitive!) recurses directories.  The longer
answer is that the *nix world has (sort of) online manuals called "man
pages."  A quick google search (http://www.google.com) for "ls man page"
turned up this link which might be helpful:
http://nersp.nerdc.ufl.edu/~dicke3/nerspcs/ls.html

On a real *nix system, "--help" would give a somewhat meaningful synopsis .
QSH is somewhat less helpful.
