We use watchguard for our firewall and VPN.  They sell SOHO boxes that
you can connect to the internet and VPN back to your home office.  If
you set up a system like this you don't need to worry about software or
hardware requirements - they are basically network appliances.  If you
are using DSL and/or VPN you had better plan on all network traffic
being tcp/ip.  If you are using a PC to dial the internet you will
probably need to be on Win98 or above.

Just keep everything TCP/IP and you don't even need to let the DSL
provider know you have a 400.
