Chuck,

I hope I've understood your question properly. Let me explain what I did
in a very similar situation. Although not quite what you are asking for, I
think it will give you a solution that avoids your DDM requirements.

Since you've asked about creating DDM LF's within Harbinger, it sounds as
if you are thinking of kicking off your process to load JDE PO's into
Harbinger, from within Harbinger. I suggest you rethink this a bit, and
kick it off from the system that produces your PO's.

I had two AS/400's networked together. One had the PO application and it's
files (although it wasn't JDE) , and the other was where our Harbinger
application ran and EDI communications was done from. On the PO system, I
wrote a CLP that would extract the PO's into a couple of files and then
automatically SNADS the files to the EDI system. On the EDI system, I had
a "message-handling" program always active that would look for the arrival
of the SNADS message, and automatically receive them into a set of the same
files on the EDI system. At this point, the Harbinger API was called to
automatically load the PO's into Harbinger and send them via API. The
whole thing was completely transparent and completely automated.

I did use DDM in this application, but only from the PO system. I used DDM
to "look into" Harbinger to see if the Vendor in question was setup to do
EDI. If the Vendor was, the PO's were transmitted. If the Vendor was not,
the PO's were printed on standard PO forms.

I hope this helps. Feel free to email me privately if you'd like further
details. Once this was set up it worked really well and was totally
operator-proof.

Bill
