This clearly was a feature far back into the System/38. The way it works
is that is the QSYS/QSYSMSG *MSGQ exists certain messages are diverted
there from QSYSOPR, and other messages are duplicated there.

Although IBM is inconsistent about if the technique is diversion vs.
replication, security messages tend to be diverted there, whereas DASD
failure/power management messages seem to be replicated there.

Happy Easter or Passover to all, and to all a good night! (Something
sounds funny about that?????)

First, my apologies and thanks to Al Mac. Mea Culpa!

Man, I love this list! In all my AS/400 years, I have never known about
this
message queue!

So I can create a message queue QSYSMSG in QSYS. How far back VnRn-wise
has
IBM "supported" this message queue? (I've got one box at V3R2.)

A V4R4 softcopy search turned up 18 manual hits on QSYSMSG. Where do I
start?

(Whatever is said in Latin seems profound.)

-------------------------- Original Message --------------------------
Note that the system doesn't ship with the QSYSMSG *MSGQ - you must
create it yourself.
Once that is done OS/400 will automatically start directing specified
'severe' messages (disk failure, power failure, etc.) to that queue.
I have my initial program set to display that message queue every time I
signon.

I forgot about this ... the volume there should be much less than DSPLOG &
more focused on what you need to be seeing.
