Happened to me once with some strange bug that made a file mysteriously
fill up DASD with garbage records.

When I had come in monday morning the AS/400 was down with an error
code telling me I passed the threshold. I had to manually IPL to
a restricted state and clean up disk space which consisted of moving lots
of files to tape, copying the good records from the damaged file to
a new file, deleting the damaged object and renaming the new copy
to the original filename and reloading the files from tape. System went down 3
times passing the threshold before I finally got enough free space
to copy the good records.

So, now you want to shut down the system before it hits 100%. Time to
select the IPL to manual and hit the power button. I don't know of any
other way. Then do some cleanup and reIPL (you can probably just start
QINTER and subsystems and such, but with all that DASD cleared up I felt
much safer with a fresh IPL).

Good luck, this is not a fun situation.

Jim Langston

Subject: HELP - Need to manually power down S10

I am having a problem whereby I believe that one of
the programmers here had a runaway program that caused
disk utilization to exceed 95% (which is what the
client has the threshold set at). No one (not even
the console can sign on to the system. I want to
manually restart the system before dasd usage reaches
100%. Please help. Model is S10.

Thanks.
