You bring up a good point.  This is a true story.  I was installing a
system for a trucking company and I brought up their education budget. 
They had none.

Not particularly liking companies that have no budget for education, I
said to the owner: "Say, why don't you let me take one of your 18
wheelers on a long haul to Vegas?  I drive a stick."  He looked at me
like I was crazy and I continued with: "Isn't that what you are asking
your staff to do? Get behind the wheel of a $100k machine without
training and drive it?"

They didn't know computers, but they knew trucks and what could happen
if they let an amateur at the wheel.  Striking a cord close to home can
really get a point across.
