Im sorry, but I have to completely disagree. The situation here is NOT the fact
that an automated, tested job requires access, but you want to create
unrestricted access to a computer, (AS/400 or whatever). Every place I've
worked at , financial, manufacturing etc, the auditors would drag me into their
office and demand what the hell I was thinking of. And I quote, "Any type of
access REQUIRES some type of key to get in.Period end of story. end of
discussion". End quote.
Believe me, been there, TRIED to do that (Failed miserably).

Alan,
In this case, the job runs on a server that is behind the firewall in the
computer room. Security is not an issue. Because the job runs 4 times a
day, every day, as an automated, tested job there is no good reason to have
to sign on each time it runs. The time it takes is not the issue but more
the inconvenience of having to interact with an "automated" job.

Why on earth would ANYONE want to bypass what is essentially a security
consideration. If the sign-on with a valid usercode AND password is
bypassed, what are you opening yourself up for?
So a person has to take time out to remember to sign-on, a total of 20 to 40
seconds at most. Compare this to the time it would take to rectify a vicious
hackers work, after he/she had finished playing with YOUR system. Then
answering YOUR boss why you thought saving 20 to 40 seconds, 4 times a day
was a good idea.

This is a security blanket - I hope there is not a "patch", but I do not
know of one, someone
else on the list may...

Might I ask you this, why ODBC, can you FTP the file; which when done
"properly" can bypass
the the userID and password issue for a "batch" process.

Does anyone know how to eliminate the need to enter the password every time
an ODBC connection is started. We have a time and attendance job that
uploads punches to our AS/400 (V4R4) four times a day. We have to enter the
password each time the job runs. It seems that there should be an option to
enter this once and then let the job run on auto-pilot, but we haven't found
it. Maybe there's a patch? Any help is appreciated.
