BPCS slaps us silly. RI will not work on a multi member file. I think
BPCS creates all of their files with *NOMAX members. (Yet another reason
to avoid multiple members. Think, if you didn't have it could you live
without them? The answer is yes.) So any RI I create against a BPCS file
I use a trigger. Besides, triggers allow you to do something like:
MASTER file
RecordCode KEY
'Z' 123
'A' 234
'A' 345
With a trigger you can allow a Before Insert to omit if the master is
flagged with a 'Z'. This happens alot in the 'real' world. For example, I
terminate an employee. I do not want to eliminate any history, but I don't
want to be able to generate new checks for this person. Second example. I
have a vendor who has fallen into disfavor. I don't want to lose any
history, but I don't want any new purchases from them.

I wonder why there isn't a broader use of DB Referential Constraints in
DB2/400? Moving editing logic into the database and out of application code
sure seems to make sense. Is anyone moving their DB editing logic into
DB2/400 via DB Constraints?

Makes sense to me. When you can maintain a file with utilities, programs,
web, client server, ... why copy the editing routines all over the place?
