Follow up...

-started a manual install procedure.
-LIC installed successfully.
-console displayed a DST menu with an option to install the OS.

(so far, everything is going by the book)

-select option 2 to install an operating system
-system responds with the following error message: "Install must be done
from the main console display."

Of course, this IS the main console display, as evidenced by the fact that I
just installed LIC using it!

Arghh...
