Yes.

Not necessarily, but your transactions will be much more secure if you

Objects take up space.  Disk is cheap.  The benefits vastly outweigh the
costs.

If you create an SQL collection and create tables with SQL, the
Journalling and CC is handled automatically.  Otherwise, I don't think
you have to start journalling to use interactive SQL; but again, you do
if you want to use commitment control.
