Subject: Commitment Control & Journalling

Hi Guys,

I need a full understanding of Commitment control and Journalling.

I know that you need journal receivers before you can create journals. I
also know that you need journals created in a library before you can start
Journalling physical files.

Here are my questions:

Do I need to start journalling for a physical file If a program that uses
the file is coded for commitment control? YES

Do I need to use commitment control within a program for a physical file
that has been started for journalling? NO

What are the consequences when a program that does commitment control on a
physical file is executed and the physical file journalling was ended prior
to running the program? The file open will fail.

What are the storage issues with journalling? The journal receivers
require maintenance, they can grow large; this can easily be automated. J on
files will increase the activity of your disk arms too.

When using interactive SQL, do you need to start journal for the file used
to start commitment control? ???

Thanks,

Dare

Files can be journalled quite independently of CC; but CC NEEDS journalling.

Kind regards,
Jeff Bull.
