  • Subject: External data request in Excel2000 via CAEv450
  • From: Pascal Bellerose <pbellero@xxxxxxxxxxx>

I'm trying to import data in an Excel2000 worksheet from the AS400 using the
Microsoft Query options in Excel function in Excel.
I can't because I'm getting a message from Microsoft Query that says :
"SQL0104 - Incorrect syntax element, * is incorrect, must be
(<IDENTIFIER>)."
Here's my configuration :
AS400 : V4R4M0
            CA : V4R4M0
Client workstation :
            Win2000 SP1 fr.
            CAE V4R5M0
            Microsoft Office 2000 SP1 fr.

Even if I upgraded to Client Express v4.5 I still get the message. I know
this is a microsoft thing but I would like to know if there's a way to do
this without getting that message. I suppose it's the member definition
syntax that is screwing it all up.

The objective of this exercise is to be able to update de data just by a
click of a button without having to develop a macro that would do what I
want and anyway that has been already developped.
This operation was working very well back Excel 97, had few problems but I
been able to solve them.

I've tried to work directly on the SQL query generated by Microsoft query
but it didn't work.

TIA
