Unlike some, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with OS400 V1.2. It's
got all sorts of original concepts from S/38 CPF that pretty much explain
why the AS400 is such a popular machine. You dont need to go out and buy a
V4 just yet...

You say you get 999 on the console... What does the LCD display on the front
say? And the key position etc. If it goes through a whole load of numbers
and after 30-40 mins ends up as O1 B or 01 A then you're in luck... anything
else (with the System Attention light on) and you have a problem. If you
can, try IPLing with the key in NORMAL first because this doesnt *require*
the console to be ready.
