>Anyone on the list used PL/I on the 400? If so, what's your strategy?

In a previous life, I used PL/I on the AS/400 because of my involvement using
IBM knowledge-based AI tool called KnowlegeTool. That was on a V3R1 box.
Never heard whether KnowlegeTool was dropped by IBM; if it was, IBM probably
never had to announce it as there were probably only ten or so customers in
the entire world using it.

To respond to the original poster's question, by any chance does IBM offer
PL/I as a PRPQ? Even now?

Also, any box with V1R2 installed isn't worth anything except for scrap metal.
I posted a query a month or two ago about the value of an old V3R1 box
they're trying to scrap around here; most everyone agreed: Boat Anchor.

If the original poster is dead serious of getting an AS/400 with PL/I, I can
contact my previous employer that has the aforementioned AS/400 to see if he'd
"lease" it to you. It's been powered off for several years now, so don't know
whether this will pop back on again or not. Their "strategy" six years ago
was to use more modern OS/2-, Unix, and Windows-based AI tools.

All I know about PL/1 is that it is a language. And I haven't worked on a
VS since around 1985 - COBOL. And then my contract was to upload data from
a PC and get it processed.

That 400 is better left for the garbage heap. Version 1.2 is so very
obsolete. The newer operating systems are dramatically different: GUI
front end, many new commands and features, differently levels of security,
TCP/IP added, many new language features. And obviously some dropped :-)

What is your business? Perhaps now is the time to evaluate a packaged
solution. Who would have thought that the hottest new language you'd be
learning would be RPGIII?

Anyone on the list used PL/I on the 400? If so, what's your strategy?
