often these decisions are made for emotional reasons and not logical
ones.  

perhaps the guy that made the decision to go with sap was gone or had
lost favor.  or a new it manager came in that disliked sap and wanted
another product.  or they underpurchased their hardware and didn't want
to accept that.  or sap over promised and under delivered.  or someone
at sap was rude on the tech support line.  who really knows....
