What type of Ethernet Card is it, or is it a FSIOP/IPS/INS server card?  WRKHDWRSC and send us the info.  I may have the configuration for you.

I am trying to create my first ethernet line description.  So far it hasn't
been as much fun as I was looking forward to.

A new ethernet controller in a new AS/400 Model 400 running V4R2.

I create the line like this:

CRTLINETH  LIND(ETHLINE)
           RSRCNAME(CMN02)
           ADPTADR(*ADPT)
           EXCHID(*SYSGEN)

I try to vary the line on and get message CPD27CD "line not varied on" with
reason code 2006 which translates to "IOP type conflict"

Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong?
