Do they have a back-up configuration diskette ? Get them to try that - but 
make a copy of it before hand....

If you have a hunt through the manual (as I recall Perle used to shove a 
little handbook one in a slot on the front of the controller) you may be 
able to locate the numbers below in the diagnostics section. The other 
Perle manuals (i think there are ususally about 4) may also provide some 
info on the diagnostics.

I've seen that 00124 number before, but can't remember what it means.

One thing I did see on a Perle was where there was a weird kind of internal 
wiring system and if one of the devices wasn't terminated correctly then 
the controller wouldn't work.... go figure :)
