Actually the QIC4DC format from the 6382 is readable by the 6383 (13/26GB
QIC, and the 6386 (25/50GB QIC).
The 6382, 6383 & 6386 can also read the QIC2DC format from the 6381. (The
6382 can also write QIC2DC).

The "AS/400e series Basic System Operation, Administration, and Problem
Handling Version 4" (Document Number SC41-5206-xx) has a good table in
section 2.6.1.4 Using 1/4-Inch or 1/4-Inch Mini Tape Cartridges.

The 6382 is a compacting device, so for single-system use you should of
cause use *QIC4DC. However "The IBM QIC-4GB-DC tape media supported by the
4GB 1/4" Cartridge Unit is not supported in any other QIC drive", so for
data interchange you should probably use *QIC4GB.

Does anybody know at which format I should initialize a tape for this
unit.
Perhaps at *QIC4GB?
