Re: Help with Date Last Used Reporting...

Using Query more effectively seems to be a very popular topic recently on 
Midrange_L leading to various people informing us of web sites with 
downloadable solutions.  You might like to double check if any of the

As usual I am at home unconnected to work 400 where when I go in I will be on 
twinax.  I wrote a CL a month or so ago that does a DSPOBJD of *QRYDFN & 
other stuff to a file, in which we refresh the whole thing every nite so 
folks have query access to all queries that we have by a variety of sequences 
& I am pretty sure it has everything you asking for ... promises promises ... 
you been such a big help to us ... I will print out the CL & transcribe the 
steps to a later e-mail for you.  I will also do a 6 on some of our queries 
that use this & let you know some of the particulars.

I agree that DSPOBJD can be a mother of an *OUTFILE but with Query/400 or 
other tools you can go after the fields of specific interest.  It might make 
sense to use the mother collection then other software to extract just what 
you want, then clear the mother, or use QTEMP for mother, so that disk space 
consumption ends up just being what you wanted to extract from the *OUTFILE.

A lot of stuff is now obvious to us because of user (miracle of miracle) 
naming convention standards.
When they do a query - the subject title starts with INV (for inventory) or 
ACP (for accounts payable) or CST (for cost) so they can be sort selected in 
that range ... the very end of the title has the initials of the person who 
created it, so you know who to consult regarding why this or that technique 
or if it not look right.  Of course, not all users are doing this, but I 
hazard a guess that hundreds of our queries are now consistent this way.
When we do a CL to run a query from a menu & I am not the only person writing 
these, we put on the end of the line (justified for substring convenience) 
the name of the query that it runs.

There are several queries off of this & some more we plan to add.

whatever (candidates for purge).
View on screen all queries relevant to a particular department.
