Ken,

3480 tapes produced on MVS/VSE/VM are readable on a 3490 drive if they were
created using DITTO, IBEGENER or the CMS MOVEFILE command.  We were VSE had
the same question about using our 3480 tapes on the 3590 drive.  It doesn't
work.   So, we took another step and DUP'd them from the 3490 drive to the
3590 drive.  Hope this helps.
