Just installed 2 820 4way DSD boxes. Each has a 9910-B46 UPS. these are Best Axxiom(sp) Pro 6Kva UPS units.
In one month, we have experienced the following problems:
1. Wrong power cords. AS/400s had a set that wouldn't plug into the UPS, UPS had cords that wouldn't plug into the AS/400
2. One UPS has a bad LCD display. Several blank lines running through the display.
3. Open Cell Error. this was a bad battery Pack.
4. Tech support had someone remove the two power modules to fix the open cell error. It did not fix the problem, but broke the safety interlock on each handle. Result - DEAD UPS, no bypass, Dead AS/400.
5. New power Module (In factory sealed box) Dead on Arrival

The broken interlock on the handle is a known problem. I recommend everyone contact BEST and request a new handle for use as a spare. The interlock is activated when the orange rubber covered tab on the handle depresses a micro switch on the board in the Power Module. When the tab breaks off, the power Module will not function. Each interlock broke in the same fashion, just past the orange tab, at a slight angle across the tab.

Has anyone else experienced problems with these units?
Bob

From today's NEWSWire/400

AS/400 GLITCH SPOOKS CUSTOMER
http://www.as400network.com/nwn/story.cfm?ID=8810
After a user complained that his AS/400 seemed to be haunted, IBM
and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) manufacturer Best Power
discovered that under certain operating and environmental
conditions, the continuous powered mainstore (CPM) UPS units that
Best Power manufactures for IBM Global Services to resell may cause
AS/400 servers to shut down without corresponding source code. The
CPM units at risk are 9910-080 and 9910-140 UPS Products with serial
numbers EC 2P OD 47286 2.07 code, EC 2P OD 47287 2.08 code, EC 2P OD 47275 4.01 code. EC numbers are located on the rear of the UPS.

IBM and Best Power issued a software enhancement to ward off the
remote -- but frightful -- possibility. The free enhancement as well
as technical support is available at
http://www.bestpower.com/service_support/ibmalert/. Customers can
also call Best Power at 1-800-356-5737.
