Ya yu betcha. Done lots of 'em but it's been a while!

To do 56K they have to be past a certain serial number (you don't
think I remember what that is now do ya???) Even the ones below 'the
line' will do 56K most days. I'd go for it.

There is no magic on the line/ctlr/device for the speed. The speed is
controlled by the CSU/DSU on each end. Both the AS/400 and the 5394
slave to them. If the config works for 2400, 9600, 19.2 it'll work on
56K IF the line and CSU/DSU's are correct.

My first question here would be is the line in fact 56K or is it 64K?
Most new lines are 64K (I'm guessing the line is new becuase they are
moving equip there and installing a newtwork). Now I suspect the
controller wouldn't sweat the additional 8K nor would the AS/400 but
most CSU/DSU's are 56K -OR- 64K capable, not both so putting 56K units
on a 64K line will often get you green lights but no data!

Other questions are if the unit was previously on a Multi-point line
then the host must be set Multi-point or the controller needs to change,
and other simple things like NRZI/NRZ, Station Address etc can render
communication futile.
