Since Post-It's are a 3M product, you are right. But, it still supports my
theory of Honesty & Forthrightness.

Also note that 3M did reward the employee's. Honesty & Fairness is a two
way street. The company must also be honest & fair with the employee's.

Unfortunately, in many cases, the "Us vs Them" mentality does tend to
prevail in the traditional industries (Eg: Manufacturing, retail, etc). But
in the high tech sector, I think this has changed or at least is changing.
Many tech companies (Cornerstone Communications included) realize that their
only true assets are the employee's. Without them, nothing happens.

JMHO,
Bob Crothers

<snip>
A classic example would be the guy who invented Post It Notes. Legend says
he was an employee of Dow Chemical (or is Dupont?) and it was done on his
own time and equipment. But Dow owns the patent. Dow made the guy
wealthy,
but they did not have to (legally anyway. Morally, they did the right
thing).
</snip>

Not that this really has anything to do with the discussion at hand, but I
always thought that Post-It notes were invented by some guys at 3M who had
developed an adhesive that turned out to be not very sticky. They didn't
know what to do with it, then someone hit upon the idea of using it on note
paper. And 3M encourages their staff to invent whatever they want, with
3M's stuff, on their own time. If it takes off, they are handsomely
compensated.
