Ted,

ODBC defines what are called "Data sources" I'm not familiar with DeskView
but typically an application will either require a data source of a specific
name or allow you to tell the application what the datasouce name is. The
beauty of ODBC is that it doesn't matter what kind of database backs up the
data source. Access, AS/400, SQLServer, they're all the same -- IN THEORY.
Now, that theory does break down, but for arguments sake if DeskView says
they can work on an AS/400 then all you should have to do is create the data
source per their install instructions.

Walden,

We have a client that needs access to the 400 using a software product
called "DeskView". I would imagine that they will just configure a data
source, but wanted to know if there was anything I needed to do on my
end and how they would retrieve this datasource. Not really familiar
with using ODBC, so had to put this out there. I'm also on V4R3 if that
helps. Also my relational database detail reads as follows:

                       Display Relational Database Detail

 Relational database . . . . . . : HTE
 Remote location:
   Remote location . . . . . . . : *LOCAL
 Text . . . . . . . . . . . . . . :

Is there any other spooky stuff I need to be aware of?

Thanks
  Ted

Ted,

What do you mean? The setup is rather simple. Install the ODBC driver on
the
client and use it (VB, ASP, MS Query, etc.) There is no AS/400 side
setup
required. How are you attempting to use it? Are you experiencing
problems?

I think I've asked the question before, but it's come back to the surface.
How do I (or do I need to) setup ODBC on the 400? Any help would be
greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
