Title: RE: SAV/RST spool files function in OS/400
Each job has a spool file control block.  All the information that I can think of that is useful to printing the report, except the report data itself, is stored in that control block.  If I was allowed to architect this support, a saved spool file would be composed of the information in the spool file control block followed by the spool file data.

What information do people need to print a spool file?

Then the restored spool file data would probably have to something different than a regular spool file, which is attached to a job, or it would have to be attached to some special kind of job.

You may not think that the job structure information is important but I'll bet there are others who think it's very important.

An interesting question.  It depends on whether they restore the
spool file data or the job structure itself???   Could they/would
they restore the job structure?  Would the total number of jobs on
the system increase when a splf was restored?  Would you be able
to see information like start and end times for the original job,
the jobd, the origianl outq (not necessarily the one it was saved
from?

That all sounds too difficult, and not particularly usefull.  Just
being able to save and restore the splf data as part of any other
save would be a great thing
