No solution, but I have an alternative. I had the same problem, so I wrote 
a small Delphi app that will convert a tab delimited file to a flat file 
format according to specifications that you enter in the program. It's 
free, on my website (see below) in the programming - downloads section. 
It's called flatulate - sort of what I though of the situation that forced 
me to write it. I use it and FTP to get spreadsheets onto the AS/400. 
There's a help file included that (hopefully) explains how to use it.
