Why would it be desirable to have memorized the max disk by model? I think
that I am confused. Does someone offer a job where this is meaningful
information?

I remember some questions that would give you an example workload, and you
would have to recommend a
"server" model, or a regular model. I took the test when the 170's just
came out. There were
questions designed to test if you knew the maximum allowed disk for the
models, etc.

Hallmark solutions (now a part of avnet) used to have a 1 day class on this
course. It was
excellent, and reasonably priced for their partners.

--> which books or which CDs can I focus on for the test preparation?

Sandy,

If you know about how many disk arms to recommend for a typical box, off the
top of your head, you are cooking (and ready)!

If you can not be tricked by a fake SYSVAL name like QMAXJOB? that looks
like the winner, you are ready!

Unless hardware, limitations/capacities, CPW ratings of features
"typically", is your area, I would not skip that in the books (if you get
them). I did not, retrieved off the AS/400 and IBM and the configurator (my
opinion).
For cryin outloud, the books online, redbooks, and as400 mags can keep you
busy forever.

What helped me the most? Playing with the configurator. If you don't know it
by heart, I would play with this 4 hours at least.

Also, go online ASAP and take the practice test for 10 bucks and don't peek
at the answers. This will let you know the nasty truth.

If you don't know the material, don't have access to a guru, work at a job,
and study in an orderly manner it will take you a months to prepare.
Experience is really what the test is measuring. (IMHO)

I took the tests a couple of months ago and I thought the System Admin test
was harder. (I failed system admin and raised a stink about the test) They
are re-doing the tests. I think they are short a guru or two in this area of
IBM. Now I am doing survey's, they are like tests too.

Going to a conference where the tests are given by AS/400 staffers is a
major plus experience.

Also, If you have not taken "many" of the tests, take a few easy ones like
"Professional Operator" (I hear laughing). Don't knock it until tried. It is
tuff to do in the time alotted, because you are looking at the test from the
view of "an expert".
