Chris,

No problem. On the lost leg your UPS SHOULD have continued to supply
output power on both legs, yeilding 220v to the AS/400 as well. With
the loss of the input leg it just can't charge it's batteries. So you
got the logic board replaced because your UPS couldn't figure that out!

Typical 220v applications (AS/400s and UPSs included) won't do anything
without both legs. If one leg is gone, you can measure 110v with a DMM
or analog volt meter from the good leg to neutral but the 'load' sees
*Zero because of the open leg. There is no neutral used in 220v
applications. (An open leg has the effect of multiplying the votage on
the other leg by *zero.) Some outlets have both legs, ground, AND
neutral (such as the L14R's on the back of the Matrix 5000) but that is
so that that single plug could supply 220v OR two set's of 110V
depending on the application.

220v is used again because of Ohms law (I=E/R) With a doubled input
voltage(E), the current draw(I) is half because(R) is doubled (by the
manufacturer). It is Current(I) that causes heat so cutting it in half
reduces heat loss and makes for more efficiency.
