Seems to me that the parable of the workman and his tools is relevant.
Why try to break rocks with a nutcracker and then rant that the
nutcracker is breaking down.

Is not the AS400 a scalable machine. You need a bigger AS400 or
a server model.  Do you blame the hardware because the programs 
it runs dont work, does not really make sense. 

It reminds me of me when I was ranting that SQL is a pig.
It may be a pig just get a big enough pigpen. If you cant afford
the pigpen do you really need to do the job you are trying to do?
