I would have to ask you the following;

have you done any performance tuning
how much memory do you have
how much DASD do you have
how many users
how many dumb terminals
how many add-on cards
how many printers
how many IP devices(perm or virtual)
what is your CPW (and with-out bothering to check model numbers, if yours
can, what is the
batch threshold set to; or is it taking over the system)
did a VAR size this 170 for you with the knowledge of Domino being installed
along with the
   the other apps

The AS/400 comes in many flavors and sizes; you may have just been sold an
under-sized box
for the applications you are running.

For example, JDE, Infinium, BPCS, DOMINO, and SAP take a large hit on your
AS/400, not to mention that web serving should be a separate box(mostly for
security reasons)...

This would be a similar annoyance with your Pentium 233MMX with 32 Mb ram
and 3 Gb hard drive,
and you get annoyed at the box because windoze98 is slow, and you cannot run
a flight sim game
at full frame rate; the machine was not made for that application.

There are many people that I run into that have undersized boxes, due to
budget restraints, or
just plain too trusting on a single VAR without shopping around and telling
them everything
that you plan to run on the AS/400..

It can do anything, as long as your pockets are very deep, and you have the
talent to set it up
correctly and to breath life into your applications.

I would start with where you bought the box from, find out if you are sized
right, or just need some intense performance management.

Right now, my perception IS reality! I'm about ready to scrap this piece
of junk AS/400 for something else. It just plain can't do the job! We
have a 170 (V4R4M0)that is running Domino(5.0.4) and a voice response system
(VRS)
